In the Episcopal Diocese of Maryland, an Episcopal Lay Evangelist is a commissioned lay leader authorized by the bishop, in coordination with the congregation’s rector or priest, to share the “Good News” of Jesus Christ. Instead of focusing strictly on conversion, this ministry emphasizes authentic conversation, invitation, and helping others recognize where God is active in their everyday lives.
Diocesan programs, like those offered through the Stevenson School for Ministry, equip participants with skills in storytelling, deep listening (tapping into the unspoken needs and feelings conveyed), and understanding scripture.
On Saturday, May 16, 2026, Marsha Jameson was commissioned by Bishop Carrie Schofield-Broadbent.
