In 1959, the principal of James Mosher Elementary School, Dr. Mary N. Brooks, approached community leaders and voiced her concern that local children needed positive, structured activities to keep them safe and engaged. Five men shared her concern and met to discuss how to address it. These five men envisioned that sports provided a safe haven and the character-building tools needed for success in life. After much consideration and brainstorming, they decided that baseball — which requires patience, focus, and discipline — would be the sport of choice for a mentorship program. The James Mosher Associates, Inc., was created as a 501(c)(3) organization and the James Mosher Little League was established in 1960.¹
The Church of the Holy Trinity has been involved with the James Mosher Baseball League (formerly known as the 
James Mosher Little League) since its founding in 1960. One of the five founding members, the late Alphonso Cottman, was a communicant of Holy Trinity who served as Junior Warden during the 1980s.²
During the very early years of the Little League, the late Clifton Turner, another Holy Trinity Church communicant and lay leader, served as secretary of the James Mosher Associates and coach of the James Mosher Yankees.³
The Church of the Holy Trinity and its members have served the James Mosher Baseball League in many roles in the past 66 years. The James Mosher Associates Board holds the season-planning meetings in the church Undercroft. Before COVID, player registration took place in the Undercroft. Every year, the Baseball League (teams, managers and supporters) are invited to a special worship service at the church.
Holy Trinity clergy have, in rotation with other clergy in the Baltimore area, given the invocation on opening day. Some of our members have marched in the opening day parades. Our Sexton, John Carrington, is still an active mentor and volunteer with James Mosher Baseball. ⁴
For many years before the Cal Ripkin Sr. Foundation became a major sponsor of the James Mosher Baseball League, The Church of the Holy Trinity was a proud sponsor of the James Mosher Orioles.
