A Lector (derived from the Latin word, legere, meaning “to read”) is a layperson or ordained minister who reads Scripture or leads prayer (including the Daily Offices, Morning Prayer and Prayers of the People). There is no minimum age requirement. Children who read well and are willing to read aloud to the congregation are welcome to become lectors. The clergy and experienced readers are available to help with tricky pronunciations.
At the Church of the Holy Trinity, lectors play an essential role in a service. They are scheduled throughout the year to read the Old Testament and New Testament lessons. During the COVID pandemic when in-person worship was suspended, lectors often lead the Morning Prayer services that were held virtually. Anyone interested in serving as a lector should contact the Parish Administrator.
